'Rudra' is a RigVedic deity associated with the wind or storm. This form of Lord Shiva was created to end the impure form of 'Brahma', and to maintain Dharma (order of the world).
This tribal statuette of 'Rudra Shiva' thus symbolizes the primitive force of Shiva in the service of liberation. The standing posture, also called Samabhanga, signifies the immutable attitude of the pillar, and the straight arms along the body represents a rigid attitude.
The serpent (the cobra) is a symbol of regeneration and latent energy. Shiva, draped with the serpents all around his body, symbolizes the forces necessary to transform the poison into purifying energy.
In this statuette, Shiva is naked signifying the stripping characteristic of the ascetic. But the many faces adorning his whole body represent the omnipresence of Shiva.
The exotic statue doesn't have any jewelry except a few discreet bracelets and necklaces that reinforce the aspect of renunciation. And the base at the bottom signifies that gods never touch the ground: the earth is the domain of beings of flesh and blood.
This nearly perfect masterpiece is truly a collector's addition not only due to its antique and tribal appeal but also because of its sheer dimensions (approx. 2.5 feet tall). It has been exquisitely hand crafted by skilled artisans of Bastar,India using the ancient 'Dhokra' metal craft.

"Dhokra Art", a Tribal art form, is amongst the oldest traditional techniques of metal casting in India, practiced for over 4,000 years. The lost wax technique, cire perdue is the medium of metalworkers in the Indian states of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Orissa and West Bengal. This craft dates back to pre-historic times of the Harrappa and Mohenjodaro Civilizations. Entirely handcrafted, the unique 13 stage process of Dhokra/ Bell metal making is an outcome of the original craft instinct handed down through the centuries. Dhokra/ Bell metal is an alloy of brass, nickel and zinc that gives an antique effect to the castings. This Ancient Art highlights the perfect union between Traditional and Modern Art!
