According to a popular folklore in Bastar, Chattisgarh, 'Mitki' was the only sister of seven brothers of a 'Gond' family. As part of tradition, her brothers brought home a youth 'Jhitku' for marrying 'Mitki'. Both fell in love but one day her brothers dreamt that their tribal Goddess was demanding sacrifice. On not finding anyone else, they sacrificed Jhitku. Mitki found out the truth; could not bear the seperation and took her life too. 'Jhitku-Mitki' are an embodiment of love and sacrifice, worshipped by the tribal families to get their desires fulfilled.

"Dhokra Art", a Tribal art form, is amongst the oldest traditional techniques of metal casting in India, practiced for over 4,000 years. The lost wax technique, cire perdue is the medium of metalworkers in the Indian states of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Orissa and West Bengal. This craft dates back to pre-historic times of the Harrappa and Mohenjodaro Civilizations. Entirely handcrafted, the unique 13 stage process of Dhokra/ Bell metal making is an outcome of the original craft instinct handed down through the centuries. Dhokra/ Bell metal is an alloy of brass, nickel and zinc that gives an antique effect to the castings. This Ancient Art highlights the perfect union between Traditional and Modern Art!
